Advocacy with institutions in Arab and Muslim countries for an urgent humanitarian intervention to Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad

Samedi 9 Décembre 2023

The CEDPE counts on the active solidarity in the Arab-Muslim world, to respond to the essential needs of people seeking to flee in order to avoid a catastrophic situation, and especially with the cold that is on the horizon.

Press release

Since the beginning of hostilities between the various armed factions in Sudan in April 2023, thousands of Sudanese refugees have flocked to the border town of Adré in the east of the country. This number is expected to increase in the coming months as the war continues. Some families arrive with some essential luggage, while others are completely destitute. They settle in precarious shelters that do not adequately meet their needs. It should also be noted that most of those who arrive at the border are particularly vulnerable women and children.
This wave of displacement from western Sudan has strained the resources available. This also affects local communities, whose cost of living is rising and the arable land is occupied by refugees.
The Center for the Study of Development and the Prevention of Extremism (CEDPE), whose mission was on site from 17 to 23 November 2023, thanks the organizations that are fighting to help refugees, but is affected by the distress in which these Sudanese refugees live, and notes with regret and surprise the absence of humanitarian actions by institutions in Arab and Muslim countries.
CEDPE is sounding the alarm and calling on Arab and Muslim countries to help Sudanese refugees to fill the emergency humanitarian aid gap in terms of:
Decent shelters;
Sanitary facilities;
Water;
Food;
Medical care
The CEDPE counts on the active solidarity in the Arab-Muslim world, to respond to the essential needs of people seeking to flee in order to avoid a catastrophic situation, and especially with the cold that is on the horizon.
