OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE CENTRE FOR STUDIES ON DEVELOPMENT AND THE PREVENTION OF EXTREMISM (CEDPE) N’Djamena, 08/01/2024 Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza: Babies Are Dying of Hunger Amid Global Indifference The Centre for Studies on Development and the Prevention of Extremism (CEDPE) expresses its deepest concern over the ongoing famine in the Gaza Strip, where thousands of children face acute malnutrition and silent agony. The latest humanitarian reports paint an alarming picture: overwhelmed hospitals, a collapse in milk and medical supply chains, and the deliberate obstruction of humanitarian corridors. Inaction is Complicity CEDPE strongly condemns the passivity of the international community in the face of this tragedy. The use of starvation as a weapon of war is a grave violation of international humanitarian law. The suffering of newborns — innocent victims — reflects a collective moral failure and a lack of diplomatic responsibility. Our Call to Action Immediate and sustained opening of secure humanitarian corridors Unconditional release and distribution of medical and food aid Joint mobilization of African, Arab and international actors to denounce, document and act Legal pursuit of those responsible for obstructing humanitarian access Our Commitment As a pan-African actor for peace and resilience, CEDPE pledges to amplify the voices of victims, raise awareness among partner institutions, and mobilize academics, researchers and activists to pressure international bodies.
