Date: October 30, 2025 Issued by: Dr. Ahmat Yacoub Dabio Subject: Condemnation of Atrocities in El-Fasher and Call for International Justice
We have followed with deep sorrow the atrocities committed against civilians in the city of El-Fasher, capital of the Darfur region. These acts of extreme brutality were carried out with impunity, and some perpetrators even filmed themselves smiling while victims pleaded for their lives.
We firmly condemn these crimes and call on the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to bring the identified perpetrators to justice. It is imperative that these individuals be arrested, tried fairly, and granted the right to legal defense within a transparent judicial process.
In the face of such violations, ambiguity is not an option. International organizations must go beyond statements: they must document the facts, support independent investigations, and exert diplomatic pressure to ensure that those responsible are brought before the International Criminal Court. Silence or inaction would only encourage impunity.
Notably, some RSF officials have, for the first time, broken their silence and publicly disavowed the perpetrators of these heinous acts. On Wednesday evening, RSF leader Hemetti personally expressed regret over the atrocities and promised an investigation. This is a significant signal, indicating that even within the RSF, a red line has been crossed.
According to sources within the RSF, the commander of the execution squad has reportedly been arrested. While this is a positive step toward calming tensions, he is not the only one implicated in these atrocities. All perpetrators must be arrested and held accountable, with full respect for the rule of law and the right to legal defense. A live broadcast of the trial is essential to convince both national and international public opinion, especially human rights advocates.
